2025 Grantee Spotlight: La Familia Sana
We spoke with Jade Weymouth, Executive Director of La Familia Sana, about the past year and the ways the organization showed up for families across north county. In this Q&A, Jade shares how Healdsburg Forever’s 2025 grant funding supported expanded outreach, how the team adapted in the face of growing needs, and what progress and lessons emerged along the way.
Q: How did La Familia Sana use its Healdsburg Forever grant?
The Healdsburg Forever grant was used primarily to support outreach in the Geyserville area, with funding covering a combination of programmatic work and general operations. La Familia Sana launched a door-to-door outreach campaign, along with workshops focused on “Know Your Rights” education. At the time, there was a lot of uncertainty around how immigration enforcement actions might unfold, so the goal was to provide families with clear, thorough information and practical checklists to help them prepare.
What the team quickly learned was that this approach could feel overwhelming. Families were facing many urgent and complex issues at once, and it became clear that the information needed to be delivered in a more manageable way. In response, La Familia Sana reworked its trainings into smaller, more focused pieces, while also adding mental health support and financial preparedness to help families plan for potential deportation scenarios. This updated approach is now being used more broadly across north county, in partnership with Corazón Healdsburg.
Q: What progress or successes are you most proud of this year?
In addition to responding to increased demand related to federal immigration policies, La Familia Sana completed the acquisition of a permanent campus that now serves as its Family Resource and Resiliency Center (FRRC). The space provides offices and meeting rooms for staff and programs, and it also serves as a hub for collaboration with community partners.
Jade shared that having a dedicated, visible space has already helped raise awareness of La Familia Sana’s work and has contributed to increased volunteer engagement and financial support. At the same time, the organization is working to strengthen its internal structure so leadership and decision-making are more broadly shared.
Q: What challenges did La Familia Sana face, and how did you respond?
One of the biggest challenges this year was the sharp increase in client demand tied to immigration enforcement concerns. As needs grew, so did the emotional impact on La Familia Sana’s promotoras de salud, who were supporting families through highly stressful and uncertain situations.
In response, La Familia Sana secured a $50,000 grant from First 5 Sonoma County to provide mental health support and additional healing workshops for promotoras, beginning this year. The organization also continues to invest in stronger governance and operational systems to support long-term sustainability.
Q: What partnerships or emerging needs should the community be aware of?
La Familia Sana and Corazón Healdsburg worked even more closely together this year as community needs increased. Jade shared that families often move across multiple towns in their day-to-day lives, which means services can’t stop at city limits. A common example is a family that lives in Cloverdale, works in Healdsburg, and has children attending school in Geyserville.
This overlap has made coordination between organizations especially important. Jade noted that roughly one-third of the students in the Geyserville Unified School District actually live in Cloverdale, an insight that has helped inform how La Familia Sana and Corazón align outreach, services, and support across the north county.
We also discussed a recent decline in participation at food distributions in Geyserville and nearby areas. There are likely multiple factors contributing to this shift, and La Familia Sana is working to better understand the barriers families may be facing. La Familia Sana recently received $100,000 to support low-income families who have children 0-5 in their households with food access, diapers, formula and other basic human needs.
Join La Familia Sana in celebrating the grand opening of their new campus on Saturday, February 21, from 10:00 AM–4:00 PM at 439 N. Cloverdale Blvd.
